The elegant 2009 Maison 2545, Roussanne is the most recent addition to our exclusive line. It hails from Pierre Degroote, the single most important vintner in the history of southern France’s wine industry. Because it’s one of our custom blends, we used the number 2545 on the label to signify the address of our Napa headquarters.

Developed with insight into the tastes and preferences of our customers, it’s one of the many bargains we strive to regularly stock and are proud to call our own. Experience southern France on a budget. Get yours today!

Roussanne is a fragrant white grape found predominantly in the northern Rhône but also in the top estates of the South. Although it is often blended with Marsanne, here it stands alone in all its glory, displaying a bouquet of acacia flowers and tropical fruit in a round, delicate wine.

The wine was produced in the Languedoc region, an easy environment in which to grow and ripen grapes. The challenge for vintners in this area is to make sure the grapes don’t over ripen and produce unbalanced wines that are too high in alcohol. The region can experience extreme heat and is sometimes called “Le Midi” which loosely translates to “land of the midday sun”.

Although it has historically taken a backseat to its neighbor to the east, the Rhône Valley, today the area easily competes. Quality has improved, but prices have not increased, making it a region in which we aggressively look for less expensive finds.

If Roussanne is a varietal you’ve not heard of before, don’t be intimidated. There’s a certain thrill of discovering off-beat wines. Think beyond your everyday unoaked Chardonnay and revel in the excitement of experimenting with this alternative!

86 Points (Highly Recommended), Silver, Best Buy, 2010 World Wine Championships:

"Aromas of lilac, apricot marmalade, pear, and acacia honey with a crisp, dryish light-to-medium body and a refreshing peach butter, praline, and chalk accented finish." (12/02/2010)

Tasting Notes Shining a beautiful golden color, this 100% Roussanne offers a nose with wonderful aromatic complexity boasting notes of orange blossom and a pleasant hint of apricot-scented gingerbread. The palate is rich and elegant reinforced by light Muscat-like and passion fruit flavors with a long aftertaste. A value-priced, food-friendly choice for those in the ABC (Anything But Chardonnay) crowd.
Food Pairing Notes Excellent as an aperitif, this wine is also good alongside oysters, almond trout or scallops with asparagus.
