Vintage 2007
Varietal Sauvignon Blanc
Appellation Lake County

Sauvignon Blanc, the celebrated French varietal of Bordeaux has been widely transplanted from its homeland to various regions in the New World.  A native of the Loire Valley, it has long been cultivated in the premier regions of France, including Bordeaux where it is usually blended with Semillon.

But that's not always the case when it reappears outsie of France. The New World interpretation of Sauvignon Blanc is usually a single varietal bottling. The style offers a noticeable acidity and grassy herbal aroms and flavors and it is almost always vinified without oak.  This is the zingy, lemony style that you sample with our 2007 Lakeville Cellars, Maxwell Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc, Lake County, California.

The success of Sauvignon Blanc in New Zealand, with its trademark "gooseberry" quality mde the rest of the world sit up and take notice.  California's Lake County is another New World region that has made it a star.  This area lying north of the Napa Vally has become known for producing world-class rendiions of the grape with bright. fresh fruit aromas and flavors that jump out of the glass.  Away from the fog and moisture of the coast, Lake County boasts soil that is rich in the volcanic and mineral content, ideal for growing Sauvignon Blanc grapes.  In fact, Lake County is considered by many viticulturists to be the premier area in the state for growing Sauvignon Blanc!

Lithe, fresh and crisp, chilled Sauvignon Blanc is at the peak of its popularity from May until September.  And since summer just wouldn't be the same without seafood, you'll especially appreciate how well this wine pairs with the fruit of the sea--especially oily fish like sardines or mackerel.  Stock up and start planning your poolside menu today!

Produced from a single vineyard in Kelseyville, Lake County considered by many viticulturists to be the premiere area in the state for growing Sauvignon Blanc. Ripe fig, honey and crisp melon notes precede a layer of lemon, herb and tangy acidity. The wine is full-flavored and delicious to drink. Fermented in stainless steel to capture the essence of the natural grape. Serve with seafood or chicken with pasta and Asian cuisine.
